Apple Slices + Figs

Sun-Maid and Orchard Choice California Dried Figs are incredible with apples as you’ll discover in apple nachos recipe. Mission Figs bring more of a familiar fig fruit flavor, while Golden Figs offer a more subtle fruit flavor that’s a bit tangy and delicately sweet.

You know the adage, “an apple a day…” and the health benefits associated with apples makes them one of our favorite fruits. Fiber, Vitamin C, and antioxidants are top of the list—but apart from nutrition, the flavor of apples with figs is a natural pairing. Cosmic Crisp apples have a satisfying crunch and this particular type of red apple also is the brilliant blend of sweet and tangy, perfect for an apple nacho. We love this variety because the apple slices do not brown when cut.

Healthy Apple Nachos Recipe and More

Here are a few of our favorite ways to team up figs and apples for snack times.

Chocolate + Figs

Chocolate and figs have a long history of being culinary partners. Chocolate is often thought of as an indulgent pleasure, and perhaps less so from a health standpoint, outlined in this article from Johns Hopkins Medicine . On their own, 4 Mission Figs with 1-2 squares of The Good Chocolate make a great naturally sweet treat, since The Good Chocolate is made without using sugar and is great on each apple slice.

Nut Butter + Figs

Almond butter, peanut butter, cashew butter, sunflower seed butter, or creamy peanut butter—all of them are natural partners with figs too. Slicing open 4 figs and filling each with 1 teaspoon of nut butter is a winning snack. We like them with a bit of cinnamon sprinkled on the apple nacho. If you think about it, this is kind of like ants on a log but the apple slice version.
