At the end of a calendar year, trend predictors try to nail down what exactly we will be eating or craving in the year to come. This past week wrapped up the Fancy Food Show, a tradeshow that showcases specialty foods and for many, can be a barometer for whether those initial trends prove out. We are tumbling together all of the trends—and showing how Orchard Choice Figs fit in. Read on to find a new way to try your favorite fruit in the food trends for 2025.
SNACKING DINNERS
Snacking dinners take the idea of a smaller lighter meal and slot it into the dinner spot. Think meze bites (Food & Wine Magazine shares 12 ideas) that could be hummus and crudites, baked Brie, or open-faced sandwiches. Here are some of our favorites from our website:
- Pumpkin Fig Seeded Crackers + Hummus
- Flatbread Crisps + Fig Goat Cheese with Hazelnut Dukkah
- Apple Ginger Fig Salsa + Pita Chips
- Whipped Cottage Cheese and Feta Dip with Figs on Toast
- Mediterranean Nachos
PROTEIN
Protein is a nutritional attribute many are looking to bump in their meals, whether for health reasons or dietary lifestyles. We’ve written about protein in dried figs before and offer a few ideas.
- Breakfast Salad
- Cinnamon Apple Fig Overnight Oats
- Choose-Your-Adventure Trail Mix
- Cauliflower “Rice” Pilaf with Figs & Pistachios
- PB+J Mousse
SOURDOUGH
So many people know sourdough for beautiful rustic loaves like Mission Fig Whole Grain Sourdough or Golden Fig Sourdough with Caramelized Onions and Thyme. But anyone who has taken care of a sourdough starter knows that the daily discard adds up. Sourdough bread bakers often look for clever ways to use that discard.
